Back in early March we had a Tawny owl brought in to us who had managed to get himself tangled up in a string of fairy lights. He had got extremely distressed and caused some minor damage to his wing. Other than this however he seemed well, a good weight and in good condition. We cleaned up his wounds and taped his wing up so he hopefully wouldn't damage it any further and kept him in one of our hospital cages. He definitely seemed to appreciate the rest and easy supply of food! After a few weeks of cleaning and re-wrapping, his wing seemed to have healed nicely so we put him in one of our larger pens to see how he managed. Below you can see him posing for the camera! His wing seems be back to normal and he seems to be using it without any issues. We hope to be releasing him soon and will keep you all updated.
Warm regards, Ray A major project we have on at the moment is to pipe the brook running through one of our fields, the water that runs through there comes directly off of the main Hollywood by-pass and therefore carries diesel, oil and more dangerous than that: rock salt at this time of the year. So piping the brook will not only safeguard whatever rescue animals we house in that field, it will give us more grazing ground. We already have the perforated pipes to do the job but we need hardcore to put either side and on top of the pipe to allow surface water to filter through. It can be anything from road planings to house bricks. We have 80 metres to pipe so will need a large amount of hardcore.
So keep your ears open! Please ring the business line on 01564 823244 if you think you can help. All the best, Ray In partnership with Tyndalwoods Solictors we are creating a memory garden on the grounds. We hope the garden will be a place for people associated with Tyndalwoods or ourselves to come and relax whilst recalling happy memories of their dearly loved companions. Below you can see some pictures showing the garden as it develops. We have ordered three metal benches to be situated on the garden and are currently scouting for a nice water feature.
A huge thanks to everyone at Tyndalwoods. Also a big thank you to Rob, Jan, Kevin, Mandy and Pat, and anyone we may have forgotten, for all the hard work they have put into the garden. We will keep you posted on how the garden progresses. Warm regards, Ray In the early hours of 27th November I received a call about a deer that was hit by a car near Redditch.
I went out and collected the poor thing and kept him wrapped up in some thick duvets over night to let him settle. In the morning when I went to check on him to my amazement he was up and walking around! His legs weren't broken as was expected at the time and he seemed to just be dealing with some shock. So we kept him peaceful and warm with plenty of fresh food and water and kept a close eye on him. After a few days we decided it was best for him to go back to the wild rather than be kept at the centre if there was nothing wrong with him. The vet cleared him and later that evening he was released and boy was he a happy soul. He appeared to look round just before he ran off as if to say thanks for all your help. Very touching indeed. As always a big thank you to all of our supporters for their kind donations as you can see they help in a multitude of ways. Warm regards, Ray Yet again the staff and patrons of Lydon Veterinary centre have come through for us in an amazing way! As you can see from the image below, Rory (the owner and head vet) brought over trolley loads of food for us. Every single piece will be going to help animals in need at our centre. Many thanks again to everyone who donated! Warm regards, Ray The kind people at English Shetland Sheepdog Club Rescue brought over an unexpected Christmas gift for the charity - a brand new microchip scanner! These devices are absolutely invaluable in getting lost animals back to their owners. A huge thanks again to Pauline, Sandy and everyone at English Shetland Sheepdog Club Rescue! Rest assured the scanner will be put to good use. Warm regards, Ray Every year the wonderful patrons and staff of Lydon Veterinary Centre in Kingstanding get together and make a huge donation of food to us. Rory, the owner and principle vet, ventures over on Christmas morning to drop it all off and every year we are blown away by the generosity shown. We get lots of stray animals and injured wildlife over the course of the year, but especially during this season, who are all very much in need and we couldn't do it without this kind of amazing support. Click here to go to Lydon Veterinary Centre's facebook page to read more about their incredible work. A huge thanks to all the members of Lydons who make a donation, and an extra big thanks to Rory for arranging it and dropping the care package over to us. Rory has been doing this a fair few years now and has become a close personal friend of mine and of course the charity.
Very warm regards, Ray Wishing you all a very happy holidays from everyone at Hollytrees, both two legged and four.
Thanks to all of the wonderful people who donate to us. Whether it's food, bedding or something to put in to the charity funds, every single bit helps. Here's to a fantastic 2015! All the best, Ray |
